Credits: Image: Bryce Vickmark Next image Earlier this month, President L. Rafael Reif announced that Cynthia Barnhart SM ’86, PhD ’88, MIT’s chancellor since 2014, will step down this summer. Following a sabbatical leave, she’ll return to teaching and research. At MIT, the chancellor has responsibility for “all things students”: graduate and undergraduate education, student life, student services, and other areas that affect the student experience. In sharing the news of Chancellor Barnhart’s decision, President Reif wrote that he has launched a search to fill the role. MIT News checked in with him about the search and what he’s looking for in MIT’s next chancellor.

Fire that damaged Fogler Library at UMaine in Orono was arson, officials say

Read Article Officials from the University of Maine in Orono say a fire that damaged the Raymond H. Fogler Library on Wednesday night was a case of arson. A small fire between the first and second floors was reported just after 9 p.m. Wednesday and damaged about 50 books. The building was evacuated and no one was injured. On Thursday, university officials said the fire is being investigated as arson by the Office of the State Fire Marshal. A reward of $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible is being offered by the UMaine Police Department and Division of Student Life.
