This upcoming holiday, lots of little Blazers are getting their wishes

This year, 90 students and their families have been helped by the Little Blazer Wishes program, which supports students who are parents trying to meet their children’s holiday needs and wishes. For Stacia Wilson, a graduate student in the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health, juggling a rigorous course load while raising her three young children has been a struggle.   “The word stressful does not give it justice,” said the 32-year-old Georgia native. “I feel like I am on an island and the land is slowly sinking and the pieces are disappearing.” When she got an email from UAB Off-Campus Student Services offering help for the holidays for students who have children, she thought it was a nice gesture and perhaps the promise of some T-shirts. So, she let it sit in her inbox for a few days.

A Mississippi State student organization is being recognized for winning first place this month in a national competition with its inaugural submission to the Broadcast Education Association’s 168-Hour Film Challenge. MSU’s BEA Student Media Club recognized on campus as the 2019-2020 New Student Organization of the Year by the university’s Division of Student Affairs is claiming the first-place honor for the student-produced film “Five Minutes.”

Garrett Gilmer named executive director of Counseling and Psychological Services

Gilmer, currently of Bowling Green State University, the new executive director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Garrett Gilmer He will begin in his role on Feb. 1, 2021. “I’m extremely honored to have been selected to lead CAPS at Northwestern,” Gilmer said. “From the beginning, I’ve been drawn to the commitments to student mental health, equity and social justice, embraced by the University and the Division of Student Affairs. And I’m eager to partner with students, faculty and staff across campus while working alongside the impressive CAPS team.”
