What do medical labs, fishermen, migratory birds and local rockfish have in common? They absolutely depend on horseshoe crabs to lay billions of springtime eggs along the Delaware bays.
Locally, the crab population around Delawareâs inland bays is remaining steady. But itâs not increasing. Overharvesting already caused a 90-percent decline in population since about 1990. At the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, keeping an accurate count is the first step to ensuring we can continue using this resource. CONCORD, N.H. (April 8, 2021) – On Wednesday, the New Hampshire House passed a bill that would ban the government use of facial recognition technology without a warrant. The proposed law would not only help protect privacy in New Hampshire; it would also hinder one aspect of the federal surveillance state.
A bipartisan coalition of seven representatives introduced House Bill 499 (HB499) on Feb. 26. The law would ban police and other government agencies from using facial recognition technology unless they have a search warrant supported by probable cause and signed by a neutral and detached magistrate.
The law would also ban access to the state’s driver’s license database for use with facial recognition technology and would prohibit any department other than the Division of Motor Vehicles from maintaining a searchable database of face images.

PROVIDENCE Should people who are not U.S. citizens and in the country illegally be allowed to obtain a Rhode Island driver s license or a government ID that lets them buy a drink at the bar?
Two Providence County lawmakers say yes, and their proposed legislation will be before the state Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.
A measure sponsored by Sen. Frank A. Ciccone III (D-Dist. 7, Providence, North Providence) would create an alternative ID driver s license available to undocumented immigrants. A companion bill by Sen. Sandra Cano (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) would allow the Division of Motor Vehicles to issue state ID cards to persons unable to establish lawful presence in the U.S. upon proof of residency and tax ID number.

CHARLESTON A bill dealing with concerns raised by county clerks and making changes to West Virginia’s election laws received pushback Monday from progressive opponents who see the bill as voter disenfranchisement.
The House Judiciary Committee held a virtual public hearing on Senate Bill 565, relating generally to elections.
SB 565 shifts the window for voting early, moving the start time up from 13 days before Election Day to 17 days. It also ends early voting on the seventh day before Election Day instead of the third, eliminating the Friday and Saturday early voting days immediately before the Tuesday Election Day. That gives county clerks more time to prepare for Election Day.
