Event Description Attendees will hear from Mary Helmer, State Coordinator of Main Street Alabama, a statewide nonprofit organization; Greg Phillips, Director of Main Street Arkansas, a program of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program; and Ray Scriber, Director of Louisiana Main Street, which is housed in the Division of Historic Preservation. Each coordinator will discuss new and innovative programming that local Main Streets have done to prosper and even grow during the pandemic. Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to several Louisiana boards and commissions.   Louisiana State Arts Council The Louisiana State Arts Council receives applications for matching federal funds available from the National Endowment for the Arts and such other funds made available to the council and make recommendations thereon. The Council reviews and approves or rejects said grant applications from other governmental units, community arts councils, and other private, nonprofit, and tax-exempt groups. Additionally, the Council advises departmental officers on the design and execution of an annual state plan consistent with the goals and policies of the department as provided by federal and state law, rules, and regulations, and submits the plan to the National Endowment for the Arts.

New Haven s Historic Train Station Has to Get Out of Amtrak s Way — Literally

New Haven Train Depot The New Haven Train Depot has long been a monument to the golden age of Vermont railroading. Just yards from Route 7, the 19th-century Italianate brick station is a visual landmark for thousands of passersby every day and serves as a reminder of the bygone era when trains used to shuttle passengers up and down the western side of the state. Amtrak has deemed the depot a safety risk because it s less than a dozen feet from the tracks and says it must be removed before passenger trains can start heading up to the Queen City. Railroad buffs and local officials have floated numerous alternatives in hopes of keeping the depot in its original place. But the state is adamant: The building must go  and soon.

Verbatim: Driving Park – Seven States Historic District now listed in National Register of Historic Places The following was released on Tuesday, March 16, 2021: Fort Wayne, Ind. – A large residential area within the Northside Neighborhood is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the nation’s official list of properties considered worthy of preservation. The Driving Park Seven States Historic District is the area within a boundary that is roughly Vermont Avenue on the south, the homes lining Crescent Avenue and Florida Drive on the east and west to State Boulevard on the north, then the homes lining Florida, West, and East drives between Curdes Avenue and Dodge Avenue.
