With the new year comes new opportunity for activist Drew Pavlou to complete his final year of studies after the University of Queensland (UQ) suspended him for the last semester of 2020. It is an opportunity he welcomes but it will not stop him from continuing the human rights activism.

Subscriber only Four prisoners accused of rioting at a Queensland jail have had their cases mentioned in court. Kye Enright, 22, Jayke John Dempsey-Mitchell, 19, Aaron Wayne Stout, 32, and Steven Michael Campbell, 35, have all been charged with riot. Dempsey-Mitchell was the only defendant who appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court. Jayke John Dempsey-Mitchell has been charged with participating in a riot at Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre. Magistrate Michael Quinn said the teenager was charged with taking part in a riot at Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre on September 15 and damage was done to windows and other correctional facility fixtures.

Isaac James Martin, 26, has been charged with unlawful striking causing the death of Zlatko Sikorsky after an alleged altercation at Wolston Correctional Centre on November 10. Zlatko Sikorsky. Martin did not appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court Tuesday morning however his lawyer Jon Ide asked the court for a brief of evidence be made available.
