SAO PAULO (AP) – Brazil on Tuesday reported more than 4,000 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours for the first time, becoming the third nation to exceed that number in a single day.
Many governors, mayors and judges are resuming some economic activities despite persistent chaos in saturated hospitals and a collapsed health system in various parts of the country.
The Brazilian Ministry of Health reported that 4,195 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the nation’s accumulated death rate to around 340,000, the second highest figure in the world. Only the United States and Peru have exceeded the threshold of 4,000 deaths in one day.
