SAO PAULO/BRASILIA (Reuters) -Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said on Thursday his condition had improved, making him less likely to face surgery for an obstructed intestine linked to a 2018 stabbing, and that he might leave the hospital on Friday.

“I arrived here yesterday with a very strong chance of surgery, but surgery is now far less likely,” Bolsonaro said in his first spoken comments since his hospitalization on Wednesday morning. He added he is feeling well.
The 66-year-old far-right former army captain, who caught COVID-19 in 2020, has gone under the knife various times since the near-fatal stabbing shortly before his election nearly three years ago.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is still in the hospital after being airlifted to Sao Paulo earlier this week. He s being treated for a possible intestinal obstruction. This is the latest in a string of health scares for Bolsonaro since 2018, when he was stabbed while on the campaign trail. RIO DE JANEIRO - After 10 straight days of hiccups, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was admitted to a hospital Wednesday with an intestinal obstruction, but doctors said they would not operate immediately.
Bolsonaro, 66, was admitted to the Armed Forces Hospital in the capital of Brasilia in the morning and was feeling well, according to an initial statement that said physicians were examining his persistent hiccups.
But hours later, the president’s office said the surgeon who operated on Bolsonaro after he was stabbed in the abdomen during the 2018 presidential campaign decided to transfer him to Sao Paulo, where he underwent additional tests. By Wednesday night, the Hospital Nova Star released a statement saying the president would receive a conservative clinical treatment, meaning he will not go through surgery for now.

(CNN) Parts of the Amazon rainforest are now emitting more carbon dioxide than they absorb, raising fears of the potentially devastating impact on its fragile ecosystems and a further worsening of the climate crisis, according to a new study.
The research, published Wednesday in the scientific journal Nature, said the Amazon s vital role as a carbon sink absorbing massive amounts of heat-trapping carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to cool the Earth is under threat. This carbon sink seems to be in decline, the study said. Over the past 40 years, eastern Amazonia has been subjected to more deforestation, warming and moisture stress than the western part, especially during the dry season.
