Brasilia, Brazil:
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said on Tuesday he was ready to work with Joe Biden as he congratulated the US president-elect on his victory, more than a month after the November 3 election.
Bolsonaro, a staunch ally of outgoing President Donald Trump, joined Russia s Vladimir Putin and Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of Mexico among the last high-profile leaders to recognize Biden s victory after it was confirmed Monday by the US Electoral College. My congratulations to Joe Biden, with my best wishes and the hope that the United States continues to be the land of the free and the home of the brave , said the far-right leader in a statement, quoting the final line of the US national anthem.

BRASILIA (Reuters) – Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday congratulated U.S. President-elect Joe Biden for his Nov. 3 election victory, finally accepting the loss of Donald Trump, a political idol with whom he had sought to forge closer bilateral ties.
Biden’s victory and Bolsonaro’s reluctance to recognize it have cast a dark cloud over U.S.-Brazilian relations, which had warmed to the point of discussing a free trade deal last year.
Biden is likely to take a tougher line on Brasilia in areas such as the environment, human rights and trade, leaving the far-right Bolsonaro even more isolated on the global stage.
