The newly discovered variant is called BV-1. “BV” stands for “Brazos Valley,” the seven-county region of Texas where the university is located. Researchers believe BV-1 is related to the variant first found in the United Kingdom.

We have now lost 184 Brazos County residents to the COVID-19 pandemic. The health district reported there are 40 new known cases of COVID-19 in the county and the total number of active cases are at 1,358. As of February 7, 41 Brazos County residents are hospitalized with COVID-19 and the total ICU hospital bed occupancy rate is down to 106%. The total hospital bed occupancy rate is 81%.
