HOPEWELL, Va. Bryant & Stratton College helped to honor Syvie Robertson, a Hopewell nursing student who died January 1 of complications from COVID-19.
Robertson was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) studying to become a Registered Nurse (RN). The 51-year-old mother would have graduated this spring.
Robertson worked with COVID-19 patients at a long-term care facility and contracted the virus over Christmas.

University of Alaska awards $500,000 public advocacy contract to Milwaukee firm
The University of Alaska (UA) has awarded a $500,000 contract to Milwaukee based advertising firm BVK. The contract was in response to an RFP from UA that came out in February. A total of eight firms responded to the RFP, including several Alaska firms. The firms include Denali Daniels & Associates, Strategies 360, Thompson & Co. Public Relations, Brilliant Media Strategies, and Yuit Communications. The other two that responded were Ologie and EMC Research, both based in Ohio. The RFP allows for up to two possible one-year extensions totaling an additional $1 million.

APPLETON - Voters will decide six contested races for the Appleton Common Council in the April 6 election.
The winners, plus two council members running uncontested, will join seven others in the middle of their terms to set city policy and determine the parameters of major projects like the renovation or reconstruction of the public library.
