A suspect wanted for first-degree murder in Pender County was shot and killed by U.S. Marshals in Columbus County Thursday afternoon.
Columbus County District Attorney Jon David held a press conference Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Whiteville Police Department to address the officer-involved shooting.
David confirmed that at around 2:30 p.m., William Dean Hewett, 54, of Atkinson, was fatally shot by the task force while they were attempting to serve a warrant at the Walmart in Whiteville.
Hewett was wanted in connection with the murder of Brandy Lynn Price, who was his estranged girlfriend found dead on the street on Saturday in Atkinson. Members of the Pender County Sheriff s Office were also on scene originally, David said.
