pcrossley@sungazette.com JERSEY SHORE Comments by Jersey Shore School board member David Becker on a CTE health occupations program that the board voted down earlier this month, prompted the board to agree to revisit the subject at their next meeting. “In researching Lycoming and Clinton counties, we’re the only school district in Lycoming and Clinton counties that does not directly offer a health careers vocational, career and technical program to our high school students,” Becker told the board. “All the other school districts, one way or another are contracted to send their students to Williamsport School District or send their students to Lyco CTC…we’re the only one that doesn’t offer it,” he added.

Study: JSASD needs over $50M to update buildings to codes, infrastructure standards | News, Sports, Jobs

pcrossley@sungazette.com JERSEY SHORE Results of a recent building conditions survey of the six buildings in the Jersey Shore Area School District revealed that the district would need to come up with over $50.5 million to bring those buildings up to today’s codes and infrastructure standards. “The title of it is a building condition survey and that’s exactly what it is,” said school board member Mary Thomas who chaired the meeting. “They took a survey of all of our buildings and they put together information for us on things that needed to be worked on. Not necessarily immediately, but things that as we start to improve our buildings and make our buildings last for longevity, these are the things we’re going to need to get into,” she stated.

JSASD looks to enhance cyber school program | News, Sports, Jobs

PAT CROSSLEY pcrossley@sungazette.com JERSEY SHORE Support for Jersey Shore Area School District’s cyber program, JSOL, is the first of five goals outlined by Dr. Brian Ulmer, superintendent, for using more than $1.8 million from the Elementary and Secondary School Relief (ESSER) funds coming to the district sometime next month. “We want to make sure that (JSOL) is an attractive option that is efficient and works,” Ulmer reported at the school board meeting Monday night. “We want to not only serve kids that are in it but we want to attract kids back from cyber schools into our own programs,” he added.
