THE initial publicity for this concert suggested a link to Islamic Sufi music. Sufis are a meditative sect who use music and dance in various forms to bring themselves to an ecstatic state of worship.
From the Mevlevi – the Whirling Dervishes – of Turkey to the Qawwali singers of Pakistan, Sufi music has a rich and varied place in the Islamic world.
Instead we were presented with music played on handpans and the world premiere on a work commissioned by the festival to showcase the contraforte, an improved version of a bass bassoon.

Codman Square Health Center (CSHC), a federally qualified community health center located in Dorchester, is seeking to partner with Randolph Public Schools on a competitive grant to establish a school-based health center (SBHC) at Randolph High School.
The Health Resource Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has issued a competitive request for proposals to expand school-based centers, and Codman Square Health Center wants to apply for one of these two-year grants to establish one at Randolph High School, according to Randolph Town Planner, Michelle Tyler.
Randolph Town Council unanimously approved sending a letter of support, 8-0-0, with councilor Christos Alexopoulos not present during the vote.

Premier Boxing Champions has revealed the full lineup for this Saturday’s Andy Ruiz Jr vs. Chris Arreola prelims, which notably feature hard-luck welterweight slugger Adrian Granados and former heavyweight Olympian Oscar Negron.
Per the press release, “[p]ortions of the undercard will be broadcast for free on the FOX Sports app and FOXsports.com starting at 4:40pm ET/1:40 p.m. PT. The undercard feed will also be made available to the PBC on FOX YouTube, Twitter and Facebook pages.”
Granados (21-8-2, 15 KO), who bounced back from his latest highly questionable decision loss to Robert Easter Jr. by crushing a local can in February, meets Jose Luis Sanchez (11-1, 4 KO) in an eight-rounder. Sanchez hasn’t been booked past six rounds since losing an eight-rounder in his third pro fight back in 2013 and his current streak includes nobody of note, so I don’t think Granados has to worry about losing another close one.

Christopher M. Pellitteri is taking a job the next town over.
Pellitteri, who was the Holbrook DPW superintendent the last three years, now will head the DPW in Randolph. The town council approved Town Manager Brian Howard s choice earlier this month. This was a decision that is the best for myself and my family, Pellitteri said. I enjoyed working for the residents of Holbrook and look forward to doing the same for the residents of Randolph. I see this position in Randolph as a new challenge for me.”
He will start his official duties for the vacant position May 4, although Howard said he expects he will try to stop in to get up to speed before that date.
