From 50 per cent off fees to Ramadan offers: ten top discounts from UAE universities

SHARE Universities in the UAE are slashing fees and offering Ramadan discounts to attract students and ease the financial burden on families. Last year, higher education institutions delivered significant discounts to mitigate the impact of the outbreak and this trend has continued in 2021. Some have restructured their entire fee models this year, while others offer discounts of 50 per cent. Here is a snapshot of what s available. Heriot-Watt University Dubai Heriot-Watt University Dubai has launched a new scholarship scheme which is running during Ramadan. Under the HWUD Community Award, students will have their first year s fees reduced by Dh8,000. This scholarship is aimed at new students applying for the September term and the deadline for applications is May 15.

Arsenic filters developed by Birla Institute of Technology researchers 200 to 240 litres of safe drinking water estimated to cost 3 paise a litre A team of researchers from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra (Ranchi), has developed a filtration system for eliminating arsenic from groundwater for using it for drinking purpose.  “It’s an affordable filtration system developed by using naturally available materials to combat the growing problem of arsenic contamination of groundwater,” informed Sanjay Kumar Swain, the leader of the team. “The project was funded by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences of the Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai,” he further informed,  adding their team comprised of Usha Jha and Amulya Ranjan Panda from BIT and Sanjukta A. Kumar, a BARC scientist, besides him. 

BITS Pilani Dubai announces full internship placements for students

Dubai: BITS Pilani on Wednesday announced 100 per cent internship placements for their 2021 batch of students, despite “an unprecedented and challenging year” of the COVID-19 pandemic. BITS Pilani Dubai also said it is “the first engineering institute in the UAE to incorporate 7.5 months of internship in two parts as part of the curriculum”, called ‘Practice School Programme’. What is the programme? Practice School I is offered in the summer after the second year for eight weeks and Practice School II is offered in the final year for 5.5 months. Practice School provides students the option to choose the role and the organisation they want to intern with. All internship postings are formally reviewed and matched with the curriculum’s needs. Students are also offered a stipend during the internship by the companies.
