Pompeo Calls on Biden to Acknowledge CCP’s Role in Pandemic After Memo Release
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is calling on the Biden administration to acknowledge the role of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in the COVID-19 pandemic, hours after the White House released a memorandum condemning the use of references “by the geographic location of its origin.”
The remarks on Jan. 26 followed shortly after President Joe Biden signed the memo that condemns rising racism, xenophobia, and intolerance against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
“The Federal Government must recognize that it has played a role in furthering these xenophobic sentiments through the actions of political leaders, including references to the COVID-19 pandemic by the geographic location of its origin,” the document states.
President Joe Biden struck a blow to his predecessor’s legacy of deregulation on Monday, blocking a rule from the Trump administration that would have allowed faster line speeds in poultry plants as a pandemic raged. The Trump administration proposal, put forth late last year, would have allowed more facilities to increase the maximum number of chickens processed per minute from 140 to 175. Brown will allow some indoor activities in extreme risk counties
Gov. Kate Brown will allow limited opening of gyms and other facilities offering indoor activities in counties considered at extreme risk of COVID-19 spread, beginning on Friday.
Indoor facilities in Marion, Polk, and other “extreme risk” counties were ordered to close Dec. 3, when Brown introduced a framework of varying restrictions on business and social activities to prevent the virus’ spread.
The change allows for a maximum of six people indoors at facilities over 500 square feet, with social distancing, cleaning protocols and face coverings.
For facilities smaller than 500 square feet, one-to-one customer experiences, such as personal training, will be allowed.
