But before he leaves his house at Mafoloku every morning, he says two prayers: that there should be heavy traffic at Ikeja along and other parts of Lagos that have become his stores. “God has been answering my prayers. From the proceeds of my sales, I feed my family and send my children to school. But it is not easy, I take pain relief medicines   because we are constantly exposed to the sun” he said in an interview with The PUNCH.

Residents battle technical hitches as Lagos BRT goes cashless

The Lagos BRT is a transport system regulated by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and operated by Primero Transport Services Limited and the Lagos Bus Services Ltd (LBSL), among other operators. Since its launch, the cowry card has been in use on the Oshodi to Abule-Egba and Ikotun to Ikeja BRT routes. It also became effective on bus services offered by Primero Transport Services Limited, operators of the Ikorodu to Teslim Balogun Stadium (TBS) BRT since February 1, 2021, as announced by the LAMATA. The introduction of the cowry cards was embraced by many Lagosians, particularly those who rely largely on the BRT to move from one place to another within Lagos, since it is more convenient, cheaper, and there is less traffic because of the dedicated lanes for the BRT. In fact, it was gathered that most traders in the Computer Village who reside around Ikotun find it more convenient and cheaper travelling to and from work via the BRT with the use of cowry cards.

BRT Operators of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Lagos State, Primero Transport Services Ltd. has apologised for some logistics hitches being faced by commuters since the introduction of Cowry cards for transport fare payment. The Managing Director of the firm, Mr Fola Tinubu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos that the company was working with the state government to remove the hitches. According to him, the firm understands the challenges faced by commuters, including delays, and is working to resolve all of them. x “Primero is not in charge of Cowry cards. Managing Director, LAMATA, Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, disclosed this in a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Corporate Communication, Mr Kolawole Ojelabi, on Sunday in Lagos. Akinajo noted that the Cowry Card is currently in use on the Oshodi to Abule Egba Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. She said the Primero Transport Services Ltd., operator of the Ikorodu to TBS BRT, would commence the use of Cowry Card on Feb. 1.
