WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Stocks showed a strong move to the upside during trading on Friday, extending the rebound seen in the previous session. The major averages all climbed firmly into positive territory, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq showing a particularly strong advance.
The major averages ended the session near their best levels of the day. The Dow jumped 360.68 points or 1.1 percent to 34,382.13, the Nasdaq soared 304.99 points or 2.3 percent to 13,429.98 and the S&P 500 surged up 61.35 points or 1.5 percent at 4,173.85.
Despite the rally on the day, the major averages moved notably lower for the week. The Nasdaq tumbled by 2.3 percent, while the S&P 500 and the Dow slumped by 1.4 percent and 1.1 percent, respectively.
U.S. Stocks Seeing Further Downside In Mid-Day Trading
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - After coming under pressure early in the session, stocks have seen further downside over the course of the trading day on Wednesday. The major averages are adding to the losses posted in the two previous sessions, with the S&P 500 falling to its lowest intraday level in a month.
In recent trading, the major averages have once again slid to new lows for the session. The Dow is down 458.74 points or 1.3 percent at 33,810.42, the Nasdaq is down 308.81 points or 2.3 percent at 13,080.62 and the S&P 500 is down 66.13 points or 1.6 percent at 4,085.97.
Dow, S&P 500 Reach Record Highs Following Weaker Than Expected Jobs Data
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Stocks moved mostly higher during trading on Friday, extending the upward move seen in the previous session. With the continued advance, the Dow and the S&P 500 both ended the session at new record closing highs.
The major averages all ended the day firmly in positive territory. The Dow rose 229.23 points or 0.7 percent to 34,777.76, the Nasdaq advanced 119.40 points or 0.9 percent to 13,752.24 and the S&P 500 climbed 30.98 points or 0.7 percent to 4,232.60.
Despite the rally seen over the past two sessions, the major averages turned in a mixed performance for the week. The Nasdaq slumped by 1.5 percent, while the Dow surged up by 2.7 percent and the S&P 500 jumped by 1.2 percent.
Nasdaq Showing Another Steep Drop But Dow Inches Higher
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Stocks have moved mostly lower in morning trading on Thursday following the mixed performance seen in the previous sessions. The tech-heavy Nasdaq has shown a significant decrease, slumping to its lowest intraday level in over a month.
The Nasdaq has climbed off its worst levels in recent trading but currently remains down 106.63 points or 0.8 percent at 13,475.80. The S&P 500 is also down 10.04 points or 0.2 percent at 4,157.55, while the narrower Dow is up 42.56 points or 0.1 percent at 34,272.90 after reaching a new record intraday high.
The weakness on Wall Street, particularly among tech stocks, may reflect concerns about the outlook for monetary policy following another upbeat jobs report.
