Exploding tea kettle update: South Carolina woman s lawsuit is settled in Philly court

PHILADELPHIA – A lawsuit from a South Carolina woman who claimed she was scalded by an exploding tea kettle manufactured by a Bucks County company has been settled. Lisa Maseng of Columbia, S.C. initially filed suit in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas on Aug. 19 versus Lenox Corporation of Bristol and John Doe defendants 1-10. The case was later removed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Sept. 15, based upon grounds of diversity of citizenship and the amount of damages in controversy. The alleged incident took place Oct. 6, 2018, when Maseng was boiling water for tea. She said the Lenox Profile 2.5 Quart Stainless Steel Whistling Tea Kettle was in the same condition as when she bought it new at a Tuesday Morning store in Richland County, South Carolina.

PHILADELPHIA – A New Jersey man’s lawsuit against a Maryland-based rehabilitation company for injuries and allegedly deficient care he received after striking his head on a steel beam has been remanded to a Philadelphia state court. Thomas Acciavatti of Turnersville, N.J. initially filed suit in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas on Sept. 23 versus Restore Rehabilitation, LLC of Owings Mill, Md., Key Risk Management Services, LLC of Greensboro, N.C., StarNet Insurance Company of Urbandale, Iowa and Paradigm Corp. of Walnut Creek, Calif. “On Oct. 1, 2018, plaintiff was working for the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation when he suffered a workplace injury resulting in, among other symptoms, left drop foot, affecting his ability to walk and otherwise use his left foot,” the suit stated.

Pixabay PHILADELPHIA – Multiple defendants in a wrongful death lawsuit brought on behalf of a man who worked at Philadelphia International Airport and was fatally stabbed after a conflict with a co-worker have discounted responsibility for the deadly events. Tamara Pryor (as administrator of the Estate of Aaron Jenkins) of Philadelphia initially filed suit in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas on Oct. 8 versus the City of Philadelphia and Philadelphia International Airport, both of Philadelphia, Worldwide Flight Services, Inc. of Jamaica, N.Y. and Frontier Airlines, of Denver, Colo. The case was removed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Nov. 5, due to the claims at issue and diversity of citizenship between the parties.
