Eight people were shot in a daytime attack on Wednesday near a Philadelphia bus and subway station, leaving one person in critical condition and seven others wounded, authorities said.

Temple University study finds link between Philadelphia s COVID lockdowns, rising gun violence

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) In a timely and eye-opening new study, researchers at Temple University found a correlation between measures taken by the City of Philadelphia to combat COVID-19 and the surge in gun violence. A team led by Dr. Jessica Beard, assistant professor of surgery and director of trauma research at Lewis Katz School of Medicine, wanted to know why they were seeing such a huge spike in gun violence patients. It was in March actually that we saw a significant and sustained increase, nearly double of our violence in the City of Philadelphia, said Dr. Beard. Using public data from the Philadelphia police, from January 2016 through November 26, 2020, they found an alarming correlation.

2 people shot at Lukoil gas station in Germantown section of Philadelphia WPVI Share: PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) Two people were seriously injured after a shooting on Sunday morning in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. The gunfire erupted around 7:20 a.m. at a Lukoil gas station at the intersection of Washington Lane and Chew Avenue. A male victim was shot in the head, while a female victim was shot in the face. Both were taken to Einstein Medical Center in critical condition. There was no immediate word on a motive for the shooting or whether the victims were targeted. Video from the Action Cam showed police inspecting a dark-colored SUV with a broken window.
