S&P 500 Pulls Back Off Yesterday s Record Closing High
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Stocks have moved mostly lower in morning trading on Friday, giving back ground following the advance seen in the previous session. The major averages have all moved to the downside, although selling pressure appears somewhat subdued.
Currently, the major averages are all in negative territory, but the Nasdaq is down just 10.37 points or 0.1 percent at 14,072.18. The Dow is down 145.63 points or 0.4 percent at 33,914.73 and the S&P 500 is down 16.20 points or 0.4 percent at 4,195.27.
The early weakness on Wall Street may partly reflect profit taking after the upward move seen on Thursday lifted the S&P 500 to a new record closing high.
U.S. Stocks Little Changed In Early Afternoon Trading
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - After seeing modest weakness earlier in the session, stocks are nearly flat in early afternoon trading on Tuesday. The lackluster performance comes after the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 ended the previous session at record closing highs.
Currently, the major averages are lingering near the unchanged line. While the S&P 500 is up 0.27 points or less than a tenth of a percent at 4,187.89, the Dow is down 28.67 points or 0.1 percent at 33,952.90 and the Nasdaq is down 25.70 points or 0.2 percent at 14,113.08.
A mixed reaction to the latest earnings news has contributed to the choppy trading on Wall Street, with several big-name companies also due to report their quarterly results after the close of trading.
Modest Strength Remains Visible On Wall Street

Currently, the Dow and the S&P 500 remain positive, while the Nasdaq is nearly flat. While the Nasdaq is up just 4.44 points of less than a tenth of a percent at 14,043.20, the Dow is up 93.09 points or 0.3 percent at 34,129.08 and the S&P 500 is up 9.62 points or 0.2 percent at 4,180.04.
The markets continue to benefit from yesterday s strong U.S. economic data, with upbeat economic data from China adding to optimism about a global economic recovery.

Currently, the Dow and the S&P 500 are hovering in positive territory, while the Nasdaq is nearly flat. The Dow is up 138.70 points or 0.4 percent at 34,174.69 and the S&P 500 is up 10.15 points or 0.2 percent at 4,180.57, but the Nasdaq is down 5.44 points or less than a tenth of a percent at 14,033.32.
U.S. Stocks Extend Yesterday s Rally, Dow And S&P 500 Set New Record Highs
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Extending the rally seen in the previous session, stocks moved mostly higher over the course of the trading day on Friday. With the continued upward move, the Dow and the S&P 500 once again set new record closing highs.
The Dow climbed 164.68 points or 0.5 percent to 34,200.67 and the S&P 500 rose 15.05 points or 0.4 percent to 4,185.47. Meanwhile, the tech-heavy Nasdaq posted a more modest gain, inching up 13.58 points or 0.1 percent to 14,052.34.
The major averages all posted notable gains for the week. The S&P 500 surged up by 1.4 percent, while the Dow and the Nasdaq jumped by 1.2 percent and 1.1 percent, respectively.
