McCarthy rams through Cheney removal
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called his conference to order May 12, ignored five members who reportedly requested a closed, written vote, called for a voice-only vote – which avoids a public count of yeas and nays – and gaveled removal of Rep. Liz Cheney from her leadership role in the House Republican Conference.
This “cowardly lion” thus avoids dissent and revealing the unraveling of party leadership and erosion of allegiance to Donald Trump. How sad.

Buchanan follows crowd in ousting No. 3
I have a hard time accepting the fact that a representative of my party, Vern Buchanan, would vote to oust Rep. Liz Cheney from her leadership post because “He supports a united leadership team.”
Should Florida Exterminate or Accommodate Invasive Species?

Silhouetted against the moonlight, the strangest lizard I had ever seen hung on my porch screen. A foot long from head to tail, with wide golden eyes and a baby-blue body with bright tangerine spots, it looked like something a child might draw with a big box of crayons. I caught it with a mixing bowl and a Van Morrison
One of Sarasota’s earliest vacation communities, the Maine Colony, had its start in 1916. David Wade, a real estate investor, purchased land near Phillippi Creek from the Palmer family on behalf of a group of Boston and Maine Railroad retirees. The announcement of plans for the neighborhood made front page headlines in the “Sarasota Times” newspaper.
By the early 1920s, a number of houses had been built in the area around Ashton Street. Many of them were kit homes that came from up north, traveling via train to Tampa and then by boat to the Maine Colony sites.
The houses were one-story, wood-frame with large front porches, big windows, and gabled roofs. The clubhouse, built in 1923, is a prime example and has a corbelled brick chimney at its north gable. The generous sized lawn slopes from the porch to Phillippi Creek, offering delightful, panoramic water views.
