This was found by the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) and this should be a cause for concern, opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros said.
“Let us be on guard. The PNRI needs to investigate the source of this radioactive material further, as this might be from nuclear-powered warships patrolling the area,” she said.
“Alam natin na ang Tsina at Amerika ay nagpapatrol sa WPS. The tension between the US and China poses a serious threat to security and peace in the Philippines and the ASEAN region. We must not allow the WPS to become a battleground of these great powers,” she added. (We know that both China and the United States patrol the WPS.)

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña, said that nuclear science and technology (S&T) continue to contribute in various developments in health, livelihood, public order, agriculture, and the future prosperity of the country.
“Nuclear and radiation applications have long since (been) proven instrumental in various applications. These include raising the yield of our crops, diagnosing and treating various diseases, and improving the competitiveness of our products,” the secretary said.
Several government officials and lawmakers underscored the significant contributions of various nuclear-related research and technologies, which improved the products and services in the medical and agriculture sectors during the recent celebration of the 48th Atomic Energy Week that kicked off last week.

REAL HONEY can cost up to P500 per 500 grams, beekeepers said, warning that anything priced significantly lower should be treated as suspicious, after the market was roiled by a government study that found up to 82% of domestic honey to be fake.
In a television interview Tuesday, Analinda M. Fajardo, research committee head of the Beekeepers Network Philippines Foundation, Inc., said real honey is heavy and typically costs P1 per gram.
âIn Manila⦠a half kilogram of honey is (worth) P500,â Ms. Fajardo said.
Ms. Fajardo said retail prices as low as P125 are not likely to be real honey.
CONSUMERS beware: It may not be real honey you are buying.
Researchers from the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) found that at least three of four honey brands being sold in the Philippines are not pure or are fake.
The questionable products contained or were almost fully low-cost syrups made from sugarcane and corn syrup, they said, citing tests using internal standard stable carbon isotope ratio analysis (Iscira).
The study’s results were presented by the PNRI last week as part of this year’s Philippine Nuclear Research and Development Conference.“Adulterated honey takes up 75% to 86.5% of the local market, ” said Angel Bautista VII of the PNRI as he presented the results.
DEFENSE Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, who was once tagged by no less than President Rodrigo âDigongâ Duterte as a Central Intelligence Agency man, demonstrated his pro-United States bias when he quickly disagreed with Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilianâs view that the âoverturesâ (a very apt term) of US Defense officials, who recently visited the country, were âsowing chaos.â
Without going into the merits, or lack of them, of Huangâs views, I believe it was not the call of Lorenzana to react to them. That should have been the call of the Americans. After all, they were the ones who made the overtures! Why speak for them?
