DA-10, CMU push hybrid rice technology for higher yield

MARAMAG, Bukidnon, Feb. 10 (PIA) In line with the Hybridization Program which aims to increase farm efficiency and attain rice sufficiency, the Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO)-10, together with Central Mindanao University (CMU), led the ceremonial planting for the Hybrid Rice Derby. Audy G. Maagad, Field Operations Division chief who represented DA-10 Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado on Thursday’s event in Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon, emphasized the benefits of using hybrid rice. He said it is a good option to increase farmers’ production because it can produce as much as 10-12 tons per hectare.  “With hybrid rice and farm mechanization in land preparation, transplanting, and harvesting, the production cost is reduced while the yield increases. Thus, rice farmers can earn more,” Maagad said.
