Press Release Poe tells PhilHealth to pay hospitals Sen. Grace Poe reiterated her call to the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) to speed up payment to public and private hospitals and shun unnecessary and delaying procedures that impair the ability of healthcare institutions to carry out their crucial function. The senator said that PhilHealth must do all to address hospital claims it refuses to pay as well as the so-called return-to-hospital (RTH) claims which threaten the viability of these hospitals. The Commission on Audit (COA) report on the Philippine Children s Medical Center (PCMC) showed that PhilHealth denied a total of 1,641 claims from the government-run hospital amounting to P22.98 million as of Sept. 30, 2020 while RTH claims amounted to P11.60 million representing 683 claims. RTH claims are sent back to hospitals as PhilHealth deems they still lack certain requirements.

SunStar (File photo) May 24, 2021 THE Cebu Provincial Government signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with CareHealth Plus Systems International Inc. on May 19, 2021 to signify the accreditation of the health maintenance organization (HMO) as a health insurer in the 16 provincial and district hospitals in Cebu Province. This means that members of CareHealth and their dependents can avail themselves of emergency consultation and treatment, out-patient services, and medical and surgical in-patient services in Capitol-owned hospitals, granting they secure a letter of authority from the insurer. The accreditation involves an investment of a cash bond of P200,000 from CareHealth, which will be returned to the company upon the termination of the contract.

(PhilHealth) on Friday assured the public it has enough funds to cover the unpaid claims it owes to hospitals amid complaints that the state health insurer’s obligations are mounting to billions of pesos. “PhilHealth reiterates its commitment to pay its obligations to its partner hospitals,” the agency said in a statement. “It has sufficient funds to fulfill its obligations,” it said. At a Senate hearing on Wednesday, Philippine Hospital Association president Dr. Jaime Almora said private and public hospitals were forced to use their savings and borrow from banks to sustain their operations due to PhilHealth s alleged failure to pay the claims for COVID-19 cases since March 2020.

6,258 new COVID-19 cases push Philippine tally to 1,171,403

By JOAHNA LEI CASILAO, GMA News Published May 21, 2021 4:11pm The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported 6,258 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, bringing the total tally to 1,171,403, as five laboratories failed to submit data on time. According to the DOH, this brought the number of active cases to 55,531. Of these, 93.5% were mild cases, 2 % were asymptomatic, 1.8% were severe, and 1.4% were in critical condition. The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 1,096,109 after 2,586 more patients recovered from the illness. This is the first time in six days when less than 3,000 recoveries were recorded. Meanwhile, 141 new fatalities brought the death toll to 19,763.
