+ December 15, 2020 A BILL providing enhanced protection, security, and benefits for media workers hurdled second reading approval at the House of Representatives.
During Monday s plenary session, the chamber passed via voice vote House Bill 8140 or the proposed Media Workers Welfare Act.
The bill aims to ensure that media workers shall, at the minimum, be paid the wages, allowances, and benefits provided by law to workers.
Media workers shall be covered by the Social Security System, the Home Development Mutual Fund or the Pag-Ibig Fund, and the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. upon employment.
Employers shall provide additional insurance coverage to media workers, including the death benefit of P200,000, disability benefit of P200,000, and medical insurance benefit of P100,000.

Published December 14, 2020 2:17pm The task force ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte to investigate corruption in government may be able to file its first batch of complaints within the month, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Monday. Guevarra said the task force against corruption (TFAC) has been fully operational since December 1 but had been receiving complaints and reports shortly after Duterte ordered its establishment in October. The mechanism for the efficient operations of the TFAC is in place and is now processing complaints and reports on corruption. We may be able to file a couple of formal charges within the month, he said in a message to reporters.
