(Photo from DOST-PCIEERD) The DOST-PCIEERD said the “durable, cost-effective” battery technology was developed by researchers from the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP). “Dubbed iLAWA, derived from the Filipino phrase ilaw mula sa lawa (light from the lake), the researchers developed the battery technology from recycled aluminum like cans to help light the path of fisherfolks and clean lakes when submerged underwater,” it said in a statement. The Council noted that the TIP’s battery gets its power from the electrolytes in the water due to the presence of electric charges.

Winners of PH Startup Incubator Awards bared Share on email The Department of Science and Technology and QBO Innovation Hub recently rewarded top-performing Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) that have demonstrated outstanding capabilities and produced impactful programs and startups during the TBI 4.0 Program. The TBI 4.0 program, funded by the DOST’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) and led by QBO Innovation Hub, aims to develop world-class TBIs and incubator managers and increase the number of quality tech startups in the Philippines. The program, which was initiated in 2019, also elevated the capacity and services of the 12 DOST-supported TBIs from all over the country, many of which were affiliated with local universities. Published April 28, 2021, 4:18 PM The Department of Science and Technology -Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) and global scientific publication aggregator Elsevier have jointly conducted a webinar on research training to almost 4,000 scientists and engineers from 26 countries. 3288 The webinar entitled “Best Practices in Writing and Publishing Your Research Paper” was participated in by 3,936 scientists and engineers from the Philippines last Saturday, April 24. The DOST-PCIEERD said the webinar “is a first of a series of workshops lined up for the renewed partnership between the DOST council and Elsevier in boosting the capabilities of the country’s science and technology (S&T) community.”
