February 25, 2021 THE business sector in Cebu has assured that it is consistent in policing its own ranks, following the continued rise of Covid-19 cases in the city.
Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Felix Taguiam said the business community adhered to the guidelines set by the government agencies and the Project Balik Buhay.
“If there is someone who will test positive among their employees, they would close their establishment and disinfect it. The Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Labor and Employment have been doing spot site inspections of private establishments to check if they are following the workplace safety protocol,” he said.

Regardless of quarantine
Regardless of the quarantine level that the government will decide on, businesses said they are now ready to reopen safely and are confident of achieving their growth targets for the year.
In a virtual forum on “Actions and Solutions to Safely Reopen the Economy” organized by the Management Association of the Philippines, the retail, IT-business process management, and the hotel and restaurant sectors presented their readiness to reopen their businesses after almost a year of strict quarantines.
Manolito “Lito” T. Tayag, chair of the IT-Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), said they have already adjusted to the new normal and is determined to keep their recalibrated growth targets for the year of 3-5 percent growth.

COMPANIES in various industries are keeping a cautious outlook on recovery this year, after Malacañang decided not to loosen lockdown restrictions.
Rosemarie B. Ong, president of the Philippine Retailers Association and chief operating officer of Wilcon Depot, Inc., said she still expects business growth this year as customers divert their travel budget to home renovations.
“(Growth is) going to be soft but still very helpful because we are seeing some developments,” she said at an online event held by the Management Association of the Philippines on Wednesday.
