BAGUIO CITY – The Summer Capital will host the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) for its bubble training starting July in preparation for the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam from November 21 to December 2, this year.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said sports officials led by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) commissioner and basketball icon Ramon Fernandez, PATAFA training director Renato Unso, head coach Sean Guevarra, and others, joined the meeting.
Unso said the city was chosen as venue for the training bubble because of its accessibility, adequate sports facilities, and that its temperate climate is similar to that of Hanoi in November.
Philippine Superliga (PSL) chairman Philip Ella Juico assured that the historic 2021 Gatorade-PSL Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup bubble will push through as planned on Feb. 26 to 28 in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

The Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) is eyeing three more athletes to earn berths to the 2021 Tokyo Olympics set July 3 to Aug. 8.
PATAFA President Philip Ella Juico said tracksters Eric Cray and Kristina Knott, and pole vaulter Natalie Uy – all national record-holders and based in the United States – have been concentrating on joining races to make the qualifying standard by the end of June.
Cray, who competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics, has been aiming to earn a spot in the 400-meter hurdles and is trying to compete in races near Texas where he is currently based.
