MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN): The independent pandemic monitor OCTA Research group on Thursday (July 21) called for “urgent and appropriate” response from the national and local governments, saying the uptick in Covid-19 cases in the nation’s capital could be driven by the more transmissible Delta variant after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 12 more cases.
“The OCTA Research group believes that a surge in its early stages has started in the NCR (National Capital Region),” it said in a report.

CLARK FREEPORT (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN): Filipinos barred by the Chinese coast guard from fishing in Scarborough Shoal (also known as Panatag Shoal) off Zambales province have recently found a device reportedly used in oil exploration.
The equipment, which bore Chinese characters, was confirmed by an expert to be an ocean bottom seismometer or OBS, according to the Peoples Development Institute (PDI), a partner of the fishers federation Bigkis ng Mangingisda.

MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN): Filipinos in Myanmar have been urged to return to the Philippines amid the “nearing catastrophic” Covid-19 situation there due to the Delta variant, an envoy said Tuesday (July 20).
Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Eduardo Kapunan Jr. said some 43 Filipinos have so far volunteered to be repatriated and are scheduled to return to the Philippines on Aug 5.
“Our analysis and the analysis of doctors, the Covid situation in Myanmar is nearing catastrophic proportions. It means it’s worsening,” Kapunan said in an interview with Teleradyo.
