Black Hawk helicopters can be used to transport vaccines for the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) to far-flung areas, the Department of National Defense (DND) said on Saturday amid criticisms that the purchase of choppers is ill-timed due to the economic impact of the pandemic.
DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said the Black Hawk can also be tapped for various usage such as airlifting of relief goods and air evacuation of sick or wounded people from the far-flung area.
“For a country constantly beset by calamities and currently battling a pandemic, transport helicopters like the Black Hawks are an absolutely necessary asset in our inventory that will allow the Armed Forces to respond efficiently and effectively to critical situations,” said Andolong.

Rosemarie Salazar, social welfare officer V and the Protective Services Division chief, emphasized that resorting to shortcuts in adoption put the rights and welfare of the child at stake.
“It is our vision that we will no longer advocate for legal adoption because all of us are aware that it is a must for the child’s welfare and interest,” she said in a press conference on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021.
“We cannot aim for zero adoption because the reality is there are childless couples and there are children who are in need of family,” she added.

House Deputy Speaker Legarda on Saturday, Feb. 6, called for continued efforts to address unemployment and promote sustainable development in the country, following a recent report by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) that showed 3.8 million jobless adults as of October 2020.

Although it showed a significant improvement in the country’s unemployment rate from a record high of 7.3 million jobless Filipinos in April 2020, Legarda said gearing towards viable employment alternatives will strongly complement the provision of jobs and help address the lingering unemployment problems in the country brought by the pandemic and extreme weather events.
