He also sought the hiring of 20,000 additional firemen.
In his Senate Bill 1832, or the “Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2020,” reported out by the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs last year, Dela Rosa pointed out the urgent need to expand BFP’s powers and functions which should include the agency’s authority to inspect structures within the Special Economic Zones for fire safety as well as to conduct necessary probe in the event of destructive fire.
Dela Rosa, former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, cited the incident of fire that hit a prominent hotel within an Eco Zone which claimed several lives. He reiterated that such loss of lives could have been averted if the BFP had conducted a fire safety inspection in the area.

Here’s good news that largely went unnoticed: President Duterte has okayed the expansion of the Bulacan Industrial City where a new pharmaceutical manufacturing zone is set to rise.
Sen. Francis Tolentino, who was my online guest last Sunday in my Teleradyo program Sagot Ko ‘Yan, relayed the good news that Malacañang issued Proclamation No. 1070 last January 11 designating 259,069 square meters of land in Malolos, Bulacan, as a special economic zone.
He said the newly designated land in Malolos will be added to the current 38-hectare Bulacan Industrial City that was established in 1991, and dubbed as the “Pharma City of the North” which houses several pharmaceutical firms such as Pascual Laboratories, Cargill Philippines, and seven others.

THE MINDANAO Development Authority (MinDA) will push for a P1.35-trillion allocation in the 2022 national budget, representing 27% of the proposed P5-trillion spending plan, to realize major infrastructure and other projects.
“Mindanao has been getting a share that is lower than expected. In the last four years and a half, our highest share was last year at 16%. For 2021, Mindanao will only be getting 12%,” MinDA Chair Emmanuel F. Piñol said during the Mindanao Speaks Up forum on Wednesday.
