S&P slashes 2021 PH growth forecast amid low mobility, slow vaccine drive

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 25) Another international debt watcher has trimmed its growth projection for the Philippine economy this year, citing mobility restrictions and vaccination concerns.
S&P Global Ratings said in a note on Thursday it downscaled its economic forecast for the country to 6% from the initial 7.9%. The revised projection is the high end of the government s downscaled 4-6% growth target band for 2021.
The U.S. debt watcher noted that mobility remains very low even with the easing of quarantine restrictions.
Metro Manila and Bulacan are under general community quarantine with some restrictions until the end of the month while Cavite, Laguna and Rizal remained under GCQ with heightened restrictions. The areas collectively known as National Capital Region plus went into a more relaxed quarantine status beginning June.

ILOILO CITY – Seventeen Chinese working for a coal-fired power plant in Concepcion, Iloilo have been infected with COVID-19.
Concepcion Mayor Raul Banias confirmed that the 17 Chinese are among the 18 infected workers, including one Filipino, of a 135-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant owned by Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC), a subsidiary of A Brown Co.
Banias said that the Filipino worker is among the seven new positive cases that were confirmed when test results were released Saturday, June 26.
Last June 23, the coal-fired power plant’s medical unit informed the local government’s COVID-19 team that an employee had flu-like symptoms, leading to a swab testing of Chinese and Filipino workers.
