The Department of Health, the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center, and the UP-National Institutes of Health confirmed on Sunday that 18 additional UK variant cases of COVID-19 have been detected.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 21) Eighteen new cases of a COVID-19 variant first seen in the UK have been detected in the country. The Department of Health (DOH), the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC), and the UP-National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH) today confirm eighteen (18) additional B.1.1.7 variant (UK variant) cases among the 7th batch of 757 samples sequenced by the UP-PGC on February 18, which brings the total B.1.1.7 variant cases in the country to 62, said a release from the DOH Sunday.
According to the DOH, 13 of these cases are returning overseas Filipinos who entered the country between January 3 to 27.

+ February 19, 2021 LOCAL health experts are looking into the possibility that Davao Region s new variant cases may not have acquired the coronavirus from a human source but it may have simply mutated naturally into a B.1.1.7. variant or the UK variant.
Hence, the public is strongly advised to follow the minimum health protocols to stop the further spread of the virus and its mutation.
In the Kapihan sa Davnor on February 17, 2021, Dr. Arnel Florendo, chief of Tagum City Health Office (CHO), said the UK variant has only been discovered in the UK because they have the capability to detect.

MANILA, Feb. 12 The Department of Health (DOH), the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC), and the UP-National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH) confirm the detection of nineteen (19) additional COVID-19 cases positive for the B.1.1.7 variant (UK variant). This brings the total B.1.1.7 variant cases in the country to 44. The DOH, UP-PGC, and UP-NIH further report that no other variant of concern was detected, and 60 samples from Region 7 fitting sequencing criteria were negative for the B.1.1.7 variant.
The 19 additional cases were part of the sixth batch of 718 samples sequenced by the UP-PGC on February 8, 2021. The sixth batch of samples were sourced from all regions, except BARMM, and were selected to ensure representation of each region as well as areas where spikes in cases have been reported.
