Hometown Tuesday: The State Theatre
Not many cities have historic, operating movie theatres. That would have been a true statement for the City of Sioux Falls only a few short months ago. However, after being closed for nearly 30 years, The State Theatre reopened its doors to Downtown Sioux Falls in December.
The State Theatre is located right along Phillips Avenue in the heart of the downtown area. In an effort to offer timeless films to movie fans in the Sioux Empire, The State Theatre is bringing history to life to all who enter! According to its website, The majestic theatre dazzled the residents of Sioux Falls with its iconic marquee and sophisticated Beaux Arts-inspired design. This style of the building became known nationally as the ‘movie palace. The State Theatre shut its doors in 1991 due to the decline of downtown traffic. Since the reopening of The State Theatre, Downtown Sioux Falls feels whole again. It just wasn t the same without this
This is the last weekend you will be able to try one of the burgers featured this year on the downtown burger battle.
With that said, plenty of people in the Sioux Empire already have, to the tune of 21,000 burgers being sold so far during this year s competition.
Dakota News Now is reporting the 2021 DTSF Burger Battle has been an excellent way for participating businesses to rebound after being hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic these past few months.
Lance White, the owner of Chef Lance s on Phillips Avenue told Dakota News Now, “The burger battle has been so good for us as a business, good for our team, good for our environment.
Elementary students kick off annual kindness challenge in Riverhead
Kindness matters.
Fourth graders at both Phillips Avenue and Roanoke Avenue elementary schools are using their platform to spread that simple message as they celebrate the 2021 Great Kindness Challenge this week.
“It’s not only important to remind kids but adults how important kindness is,” said Adelaide Boese, a Roanoke Avenue Elementary student. “Because then you share the good with everyone, reminding them to be the best they can they be and to be kind to other people.”
To prepare for the challenge, students worked with Riverhead CAP social worker Shannon Kutner to create “Kindness Matters” signs for each school and kindness ‘kits’ for every classroom. Virtual students were also able to participate by creating signs for their homes.
