Local churches work together to help during pandemic

In normal times they help about 55 families but during COVID-19 this has skyrocketed to 120 families, equating to approximately 500 people. In addition to the increased need, many of their volunteers were seniors not able to help due to the shelter-in-place order. Missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints normally spend their time teaching those interested about the gospel of Jesus Christ, but during the pandemic they were not able to knock on doors or visit people in their homes. They were sheltered-in-place in their apartments, but were allowed to leave to provide community service. It was a perfect match, so each week as many as eight missionaries from the Pleasanton zone of the church would go to Saint Raymo

PUSD Board Appoints New President And Vice President

Reply Dec. 20, 2020 During their Annual Organizational meeting, the Pleasanton Unified School District Board of Trustees unanimously appointed Joan Laursen as the 2021 PUSD Board President and Mark Miller as Vice President. Superintendent David Haglund also swore in PUSD s newly elected Trustees Kelly Mokashi and Mary Jo Carreon, as well as Steve Maher for his second term. Subscribe Board President Joan Laursen was first elected to the Board of Trustees in 2010 and is currently serving her third term. Laursen brings significant leadership and experience to her role, serving as Board President in 2016 and currently working at the Alameda County Office of Education as Director I of District Advisory Services. President Laursen serves as a representative on a number of Board appointed committees including the Alameda County School Board Association (ACSBA), PUSD Board Budget Subcommittee and Board Policy Subcommittee.

Trustees Kelly Mokashi and Mary Jo Carreon were sworn in at last Tuesday s meeting, along with incumbent Steve Maher, who will serve a second term as trustee. Mokashi and Carreon took the place of outgoing trustees Jamie Yee and Valerie Arkin. Arkin took the oath of office on Tuesday as the newest member of the Pleasanton City Council, having won one of two open seats, while Yee was unsuccessful in winning re-election to a fourth term as trustee.

AP: Kansas school, sheriff sued over officer s sexual abuse

David Huggins (Former Linn County Deputy Sheriff) PLEASANTON, Kan. A former Kansas high school student sexually abused by her school’s resource officer is suing the former sheriff and school for not stopping the abuse. The Kansas City Star reports the plaintiff on Monday filed a federal lawsuit against Linn County’s former sheriff and the Pleasanton Unified School District 344. Former Deputy Sheriff David Huggins pleaded guilty to aggravated indecent liberties with a child in January 2019 for his abuse of the victim beginning in 2017. She was 15 when he impregnated her. He was 44. Huggins was sentenced to more than 15 years for the crime.
