Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 has finally arrived, and Arrow-Verse fans are likely happy to have the eclectic group of superheroes back on their screens after such a lengthy hiatus. However, the new season is somewhat bittersweet, as it will mark Dominic Purcellâs last season as a regular cast member. While Purcell has confirmed that he will return to the show in a recurring capacity in Season 7, many fans were likely surprised when he confirmed he would no longer be a regular. Now, a producer has further clarified the reason for the actor breaking from the franchise.

Legends of Tomorrow was announced in a somewhat strange way last month, with the actor blasting Warner Bros. before backtracking and claiming that his comments were a prank. Still, we know that Purcell will be leaving the series after the current sixth season but may return occasionally as a guest star.
Showrunner Phil Klemmer has now added his thoughts to the news, and seems to be backing up the most recent stories. Speaking to TVLine, he had this to say about the issue:
“I think [Dominic} summed it up pretty well not with his first post, but with his later posts…”I think everybody just needs a break from the show, myself included, and even when people leave the Waverider, there’s always a seat open for people to come back. I’m looking forward to having him on the show next season.”

Legends of Tomorrow boss Phil Klemmer has revealed that he understands why Dominic Purcell wants to step away from the series.
Purcell, who plays Mick Rory/Heat Wave on the DC show, announced his departure last month via Instagram, explaining that he would not be returning as a regular character beyond the current sixth season, but would still make occasional appearances.
Speaking to
Legends of Tomorrow co-showrunner Klemmer explained that the door will always be left open for Purcell to return.
