Billings police arrest suspect in bank robbery

A Roundup man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with a robbery of Stockman Bank in Billings last week, according to Billings Police.
John J. Smith, 44, was arrested around 3 p.m. by the Billings Street Crimes Unit, Lt. Brandon Wooley said in a news release.
Smith is facing possible charges of robbery, felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, and a probation violation warrant, according to Wooley. He is in Yellowstone County jail.
Police said that they responded to the report of the robbery at 9:40 a.m. on July 29, at the Stockman Bank branch at 1405 Grand Ave.
19-Year Old Billings Woman Killed, 2 Arrested in Downtown Crash
Investigators from the Billings Police Department still had several blocks of 1st Avenue North closed near downtown through mid-afternoon on Wednesday (8/4), following a two-vehicle crash that took the life of a woman from Billings.
According to Lieutenant Brandon Wooley, Billings Police officers were dispatched to 1st Avenue North and North 12th Street for an accident with injuries around 8:35pm MDT last night (Tuesday 8/3).
Following a preliminary investigation into the crash, BPD believes 19-year old Payton Hunter was traveling west on 1st Avenue North with a 19-year old female passenger in a Dodge Ram 2500. That s when they collided with a Toyota Tundra, driven by 33-year old Justin Bighair of Garryowen, who was turning east onto 1st Avenue North from N. 12th Street.
A motorcycle crash late on Monday night (8/3) sent one person to the hospital and closed a Billings roadway for several hours, according to the Billings Police Department.
Around 9:40 PM last night (Monday), Billings Police officers were dispatched to a single motorcycle crash on Yellowstone River Road and upon arrival discovered that a rider was injured just east of Bench Boulevard.
According to a post on the @BillingsPD Twitter page, the Billings Police Department serious crash team was on the scene to investigate the incident and had Yellowstone River Road closed from Bench Boulevard to Kenneth Street until just after 5 AM this morning (8/3).
