BILLINGS â While washing cars at an annual graduation party fund raiser in Billings Saturday, senior students from two Billings high schools said finishing high school during the COVID-19 pandemic was difficult and different, but yielded its own unique lessons.
âAs a school and a community, weâve all really worked hard to try and make it the best it could be, especially these parents, said Savanna Cronk, a senior at Senior High School with plans to attend Montana State University in the fall.

America s private high schools opened long before their public counterparts and even before the United States was first established. The Roman Catholic Church in the 1700s started private schools in Florida and Louisiana while in New York (a former Dutch colony called New Amsterdam), the Dutch West India Company and Dutch Reformed Church set up private schools that filled the void left by the colonies lack of an education system.
That changed in the 1840s when the U.S. instituted a uniform public school system. To stay relevant, private schools changed from marketing themselves as the only option to portraying their education as the best option. To this day, private high schools have positioned themselves as fast-tracks to admittance into elite universities. Art students at Billings Central Catholic High School started their day at 9 a.m. Monday and geared up for the fifth annual 24-hour art challenge.
Each year, students lock themselves in the school for a full 24 hours and create works of art that are worthy to be displayed in an art gallery. Clark Marten Photography Studio is a partner in the event and usually host the gala event where students display their artwork to guests, including friends and family.
This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, things were different.
Kari Adams, art teacher for Billings Central, said this year students are wearing masks and are spread out all over the building to social distance.
