Islamabad:The climate change ministry has sent three types of locally produced organic honey for a trial to evaluate their quality and taste under Billion Tree Honey Initiative launched by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
According to the details shared by the officials of the climate change ministry, they have received organic honey from three plantations including Robinia, Acacia, and Russian Olive. The initial reviews revealed that all of these nature based types have unique taste, sweetness, and flavour and also possess high qualities as compared to other types being used even in the European countries.
THE bee is the only insect that produces food consumed by humans. Egyptians knew the importance of the bees which is why apiculture domestication of the bees was shown in Egyptian art about 4,500 years ago.
Learning of its importance recently, the government launched the Billion Tree Honey Initiative to increase the production of honey (Dec 22). In this project, trees like ‘kao’, ‘phula’, ‘kikar’ and others that attract the bees will be planted. This will provide job opportunities to the local communities.
Pakistan is blessed with 12 climate zones, so different varieties of honey can be produced here. Other than honey, bees are good pollinators and travel to more than hundred flowers to arrange nectar for honey. Hopefully, the government will expedite the completion of this project.

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched a “Billion Tree Honey” initiative hoping to increase the country’s forest cover with a focus on the production of honey while creating new green jobs and improving the country’s economy.
Sweet ambitions
Imran Khan revealed the country’s sweet ambitions at the launch ceremony saying the honey production drive would “benefit the local community” where the plantation will take place and “also help improve the environment, enhance exports, and create job opportunities for the youth.” “When local people will see the benefits and earn income, they will protect forests more than anyone,” he said.
