editor@messengernews.net The Fort Dodge city government property tax rate is projected to increase in the next fiscal year under a proposal to come before the City Council tonight. The proposed levy for the 2021-2022 fiscal year is $20.43 per $1,000 of taxable value. That’s up from the current levy of $20.17 per $1,000 of taxable value. However, the proposed levy remains consistent with some recent fiscal history in the city. In 2019-2020, the rate was also $20.43, while in 2018-2019 it was $20.42. The city’s property tax levy is divided up to provide revenue for specific purposes. The levy breaks down as follows:

Blanden exhibitions announced | News, Sports, Jobs

Blanden Memorial Art Museum, 920 Third Ave. S., announces two new exhibitions. New California Views, photographs from the Blanden’s permanent collection, is in the east gallery. This exhibit will run until March 13. Iowa Watercolor Society, a showcase of Iowa talent, will be on display in the second floor gallery from Feb. 6 through March 6. Admission is free to view the exhibitions. Masks are required inside the museum. Museum hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Blanden to hold virtual class Feb 20 | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan 30, 2021 Blanden Memorial Art Museum. 920 Third Ave. S., is holding a virtual art class for children, Oil Pastel on Paper. Register online at www.blanden.org by Feb. 18. Students will explore the process of oil pastel drawing. Inspiration for this project comes from the work “Golden Root” by Louise Kames currently on display in the west gallery at the Blanden. Students will be able to follow along with a local artist via video and create a unique work of art. The first 25 kits to registered participants are free. Each kit includes materials to be used during the class. The kit must be picked up at 4 p.m. Feb. 18. The free kits are sponsored by Availa Bank.
