Last Patrol on the Bay of Biscay

It is a privilege to share my father’s World War II story. Jack Walker was proud of his World War II service and 28-year naval career. Like most veterans, he was humble about his contributions and did not talk much about his war experiences. But as we both got older, I asked more questions and he became more interested in telling his story. This story is based on my father’s memories, original source material left to me by my father, reference books in my possession, and Internet research. Starting Out Like many of his generation, Jack Walker was a product of the Depression. Born in 1923 in Michigan, he graduated from high school into an uncertain future. He was working for the telephone company when World War II gave him and millions of others an opportunity to serve and create a future with careers not thought possible before the war.

A TAUNTON vicar who took up his post in January will meet his congregation for the first time tomorrow (Friday). The Good Friday service at St George s, Wilton, will mark the first time the Rev Dr Nick Griffin comes face to face with worshippers. His appointment to St George s just over two months ago marked a return to the town he grew up in. The Rev Dr Griffin, 36, who is married with two children, was educated in the county town at Bishop Henderson and Bishop Fox s schools and Richard Huish College. He said: I love the town and my wife is local as well.
