Manhattan Parks & Recreation announce project lineup; summer program catalog
As covered on Monday’s InFocus, Assistant Director Wyatt Thompson spoke of a planned Bike Park project in Frank Anneberg Park to be considered during the April 6th city commission meeting. Thompson signified that the joint proposal from local organization Bike/WalkMHK, for a small mountain biking skills course, would come off existing trails at the south end of the park, nearby the kids playground area.
“This would be a feature that would have some bumps and some turns and things. So if you’re there with your family, mom and dad could kind of walk on the main path, and the kids could take off on a little side trail and have a little bit of fun,” Thompson said. “We looked at three locations kind of at the south end of the park, the one that we’re going to recommend is south of the roadway, where the trail is along that end and then turns back to the north along the east property line. Flint Hills Discovery Center announces Virtual Field Trip Scholarship program
Flint Hills Discovery Center (FHDC) is offering subsidized opportunities direct to the home or homerooms of those in the community, and is available to any K-12 public, private, self-taught, or ancestral school situated in Kansas.

Priority will be given to schools and projects situated inside the 21 province Flint Hills Ecological Region and applications are presently open for these schools. Any remaining Kansas schools will be considered beginning February 15th.
Notwithstanding the intelligent virtual program, schools will get a program asset delivered by staff or via the post office loaded up with active supplies. Singular projects are restricted to a limit of 30 students and created by state guidelines and core concepts.

Manhattan city buildings including City Hall, Municipal Court, the Flint Hills Discovery Center, the Douglass Centers and the T. Russel Reitz Animal Shelter are all closed Monday due to inclement weather.
City services will still be available online and over the phone at 785-587-2480. This extends to Municipal Court, which will continue its operations remotely and by phone at 785-587-2450. Additional details can be found at cityofmhk.com.

MANHATTAN – The Flint Hills Discovery Center is leading virtual workshops to celebrate Kansas Day from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., each day on Thursday, Jan. 28 and Friday, Jan. 29 (observed). This year marks the 160th anniversary of the day that Kansas was granted statehood in 1861.
