The effort to feed those in need in Terrebonne Parish got a boost Tuesday with the opening of the new Terrebonne Churches United Good Samaritan Food Bank in Houma.
The new facility, located at 922 Sunset Ave., features more room to store food for distribution, including increased refrigerator and freezer space, and loading docks for large trucks to unload food.
Food Bank President Lawrence DeHart welcomed dignitaries, community members and stakeholders to the new space which has more than double the capacity of the previous location at 254 Magnolia St. in Houma.
“To see this event happening in my lifetime is beyond my dreams,” said DeHart.
Gulf Island Fabrication sets career fair for Houma shipyard jobs
Gulf Island Fabrication says it will conduct a career fair Feb. 25 for a variety of available positions in its shipyard workforce near Houma.
The company is creating 106 new direct jobs to accommodate recent orders for marine vessel construction, a news release said.
The career fair will take place from noon to 6 p.m. at Fletcher Technical Community College, 224 Weatherford Drive, Schriever. The event will be held in the BP Integrated Production Technologies building, behind the main campus building.
Workers can apply here for available positions, which include welder, tacker, ship fitter, pipe fitter and foreman. Gulf Island will be making contingent job offers the day of the event to those candidates that are selected during the interview process, the release said.
