Gang members caught with drugs in court holding cells Share CAPE TOWN - Two suspects appeared in court on Friday on additional charges after being caught with drugs in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court’s holding cells. According to provincial police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, the two suspects, aged 28 and 30, were found with drugs in their possession when an intelligence-driven operation focusing on activities in and around the court was conducted on Thursday. Van Wyk said court orderlies received information that drugs were being smuggled into the holding cells, destined for a gang member who was set to appear in a case.

Nafiz Modack supporters call for his release, believe he is a man for the people Share Cape Town - Supporters stood firm outside the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Monday, calling for the release of alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack. A group of supporters wearing masks which read “Modack Group” carried placards calling for his release. They claim that Modack’s arrest is a plot against him for all the good he does. Modack appeared alongside Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) member Sergeant Ashley Tabisher on corruption charges on Monday. Modack is separately charged with conspiracy to commit murder after a hand grenade was thrown at the Bishop Lavis home of former Lieutenant-Colonel Charl Kinnear months before his assassination last year.

Health of alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack suffering in detention, court hears Share Cape Town - Alleged underworld kingpin and controversial businessman Nafiz Modack and a police officer attached to the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) Sergeant Ashley Tabisher appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Monday. In a brief appearance, the accused were set to bring forth a formal bail application, but counsels from both the State and the defence agreed to have the matter moved to the Blue Downs Regional Court. The pair face corruption charges. Tabisher is alleged to have taken a R10 000 bribe in exchange for leaking valuable operational information to Modack along with a cellphone.
