Climate change mitigation strategies must be economically rational 21/04/2021|5min
When it comes to working towards “mitigating” climate change, it must be done in an “economically rational” manner that does not come at the expense of both the economy and the people, according to Sky News contributor Caleb Bond.
“When it comes to climate change and doing things that might mitigate climate change – in the front of our minds needs to be whether what we do is economically advantageous to our country,” he told Sky News Host Peter Gleeson.
“Now if what Scott Morrison is looking at is a system whereby we invest in technology that has the benefit of creating jobs and creating industry at the same time as perhaps working towards this target – that would make sense.
Tasmanian government must investigate the safety of Tasman Bridge20/04/2021|2min
The PR Council’s Kristy McSweeney says the government must “investigate the safety” of the Tasman Bridge to “ensure” industry ships have necessary “passage” through its waters.
The remarks come as The Mercury reports the Tasman bridge is “very vulnerable” to collapse – as it once did back in 1975.
“We don’t want to stop industry either and Tasmania desperately needs ships to have passage through its waters,” she told Sky News host Peter Gleeson.
“So I think that the Tasmanian government has got one option which is to investigate the safety of the bridge and ensure that ships have safe passage.”
Smart politics from PM putting domestic energy needs before fixed energy targets 20/04/2021|5min
The PR Council’s Kristy McSweeney says it is “smart politics” from the prime minister for placing industries and jobs at the core of net-zero emissions – rather than commit to fixed energy targets.
“Labor and the corralling of the climate change industry around Australia has been trying to wedge the government to say ‘it’s targets or nothing’,” she told Sky News host Peter Gleeson.
“This is the prime minister’s own narrative; this is his own action on climate change.
“It’s not ignoring climate change, it’s not saying Australia is not going to do anything but it’s certainly saying we’re going to look after our domestic energy needs first … but we don’t have to sign your policy just because you want us to set a target that does not necessarily suit us.”
New preferred PM poll shows people trust the incumbent leader during pandemic21/04/2021|4min
Scott Morrison leading in the polls as preferred prime minister over Anthony Albanese is indicative that “people do trust” the leaders who are “in charge during a pandemic”, according to the PR Council’s Kristy McSweeney.
“I think what this polling shows is that the prime minister is right to pitch his message to things that rely on economic management,” she told Sky News host Peter Gleeson.
“Labor pitches their message to certain social issues and I hate the term the ‘bubble issues’ because some of those issues bite outside the bubble … but by and large Labor has concentrated the last couple of months on social issues and other things that they can get quick media traction on.
