Published by Four Courts Press, the book reveals how five New Zealanders, acting as the core of a small squad of colonial troops, provided a vital shield to protect Trinity College Dublin from capture during the Easter Rising of 1916. In doing so, they prevented the almost certain destruction of Ireland’s oldest university, founded in 1592. At the event, Dr Sweetman will talk about his book and the response in New Zealand to the Easter Rising and the aftermath.

Speaking to ABC reporter Peter Ryan, Mr Longo covered a range of topics including ASIC’s focus on supporting business and consumers during COVID-19.
‘A big external priority for us is doing what we can to support Australian business and Australian consumers in the middle of this pandemic,’ Mr Longo explained. ‘But that doesn’t mean we’ve taken our eye off the ball with corporate crime. FRANK KELLY: Well, with lockdowns in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, a lot of us are worried about our futures. So, it’s no surprise that the National Australia Bank’s Consumer Stress Index, out this morning, shows people are struggling to pay their rent or mortgage, while others are anxious about funding their retirement nest eggs. NAB chief executive Ross McEwan says a faster vaccination rollout is the only way to avoid more economically damaging lockdowns. He’s speaking with senior business correspondence Peter Ryan.

Recent manufacturing dates on bottles from China, Europe and South America show they must have been illegally dumped by ships, said lead researcher Prof Peter Ryan from UCT s FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology.
