A waste management company has been prosecuted following the death of a binman who was struck by a runaway truck. Peter Coleman, 54, was operating the waste truck at Woodside Leisure Park in Garston when it rolled away on October 11, 2014. The father of two from Dunstable, who was described by his family as a “devoted family man”, was fatally injured after being hit by the truck as he tried to regain control. The vehicle began to roll away because the safety mechanism designed to stop the bin lift operating when the vehicle was in drive had been bypassed. It was also found that the brakes had been defective.

However, the week before the planned meet up, McNeill messaged to say he had fainted at the wheel and was unable to drive for a while.
He also stopped any further contact from this point, but police were able to identify McNeill as being responsible.
In police interview, he accepted he was the person in the chat but said it was all made up and fantasy.
He said he was just naively curious as to where the discussions about the children would lead to and added that he would never have actually travelled to meet them.
McNeill claimed this was why he made up the scenario of fainting at the wheel, as he needed a way to get out of it.
