Vera Stanton tripped over a low wall alongside a path at The Leys School in Cambridge. She hit her head and died from her injuries six days later. Through its advocate Prashant Popat, The Leys and St Faith’s Schools of The Fen Causeway, pleaded guilty to the charge of failing in its undertakings to ensure people other than employees were not exposed to risk to their health and safety.

Picture: CAMBS POLICE - Credit: Archant A drink driver who was more than double the limit was arrested after a car left the road and ploughed through railings into a youth club building in Huntingdon. Police were called to the scene in Sallowbush Road at 5.24am yesterday morning (December 13). The driver, 52-year-old Robertas Reinys of Rutland Road in Ilford, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving. He has since been charged with drink driving after giving a reading of 74 - the legal limit is 35 - and has been bailed to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on February 8.

He pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, drink-driving and having no insurance. Mr Corbett said, apart from the two convictions this month, the defendant had previous similar offences in 2011 and 2009. In mitigation, solicitor Julie Murtagh said Mazur had stayed out of trouble for a long period until recently. She added that he has sought help from an alcohol support organisation and it was a short distance that Mazur had driven. She said: “His friend asked him to go to the petrol station to fill up his car and he foolishly agreed. It seems no alcohol had been drunk that morning but there was a lot the previous evening.”
