Photo: Public Health Scotland THE number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 in the Borders is now lower than 30, according to Public Health Scotland. Between February 6 and 12, the Borders recorded 32 cases – which is a seven-day case rate of 27.7 per 100,000 of the population. This is down from a rate of 51.9 per 100,000, based on the period from February 2-8. Public Health Scotland has also created an interactive map showing 30 neighbourhoods in the Borders.

And in the most recent seven-day period (January 27 – February 2), they show that Hawick North has seen the highest rate of cases. The area saw 10 cases recorded in the week – a rate of 298.8 per 100,000 population.

And it shows that 11 communities have recorded between zero and two cases in the most recent seven-day period (January 17-23). They are: Tweeddale East; Peebles South; Peebles North; Lauder; Kelso South; Galashiels West; Ettrick, Yarrow and Lilliesleaf; Coldstream; Chirnside; Cheviot West and Berwickshire Central.

And it has been revealed that Hawick West End has seen the highest rate of cases in the most recent seven-day period (January 13 – January 19).

THE coronavirus infection rate in the Borders has more than doubled within a fortnight, according to new figures. The latest data published by Public Health Scotland (PHS) today (December 14) shows that, between December 5 and December 11, the region recorded a rate of 75.3 new cases per 100,000 of the population. This marks a rise from the rate between November 25 and December 1, which was 32.9. Among the 30 Borders neighbourhoods shown on the PHS interactive map, the highest rates are in ‘Cheviot East’ and ‘Coldstream and Area’ – both have a rate of 200-399 per 100,000.
