Six Kingston-area prisons receiving COVID-19 vaccinations for most vulnerable inmates

Isabelle Robitaille, the CSC’s senior communications advisor, says in a statement: “It is expected that CSC will have completed its first phase of COVID-19 vaccinations in the next few days,” she writes. “CSC medical staff used guidance developed by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) to determine which inmates would be offered access to the vaccine.” Robitaille was unable to confirm how many inmates had received the vaccines in the Kingston region as of press time. She said those who had received their first dose would receive their second in the coming weeks. In Ontario, inmates at other institutions have also received the vaccine, including the Beaver Creek Institution in Gravenhurst, Kitchener’s Grand Valley Institution for Women and the Warkworth Institution, located near Campellford.

Gravenhurst volunteer honoured for two decades of volunteering at Beaver Creek Institute

Gravenhurst resident Daryl McCullough has been awarded the 2019 Taylor Award by Correctional Service Canada (CSC). The Taylor Award was created in November 2001. It’s named after Dr. Charles and Charlotte Taylor of Wolfville, Nova Scotia in dedication of their years of faith-based counselling in correctional facilities. Dr. Taylor also contributed to the development of prison ministry education.  The award is handed out every year to someone who has shown exceptional dedication to volunteering with CSC. McCullough has spent over 20 years working with inmates at the Beaver Creek Institution in Gravenhurst. “I feel a massive amount of indebtedness to the people that have worked with me,” he tells the MyMuskokaNow.com newsroom. “They all deserve a piece of this award.”
